SUMMER SERIES SURPRISES
A few weeks ago I wrote about new shows I was going to watch this summer. Here is an update.
First of all, John From Cincinnati is dreadful. I actually yell at the TV during each episode. Why do I keep watching? Because my better half is sticking with the show, and I can’t claim every single hour of our TiVO as my own. In my opinion, the acting on this series is wooden and the mystery contrived. Some of the actors from Deadwood have joined the cast of John From Cincinnati, and they only serve as reminders of how much I miss the writing and performances in the former. Is it fair to compare the two shows? No. But because David Milch abandoned one fantastic series for a disappointment like this one, it’s hard not to.
That being said, my favorite new series of the summer is Flight of the Conchords. It is bizarre and hysterical at the same time. If you haven’t seen it yet, the fourth episode is now available online for a limited time.
It is the kind of show you don’t have to watch from the beginning, so jump on the bandwagon now. Make sure to also check out the awesome vlogs (video logs) from Jermaine and Bret’s stalker, Mel.
The only show that I wasn’t expecting to watch or enjoy is Burn Notice. This is the first series I’ve ever watched on the USA network, and it’s pretty entertaining. It is a quirky spy drama with a great cast and setting, with just the right amount of sarcasm to hold my interest for the duration.
As for Showtime’s Meadowlands…no interest whatsover. I didn’t even watch the pilot episode.
