Latest TV News & Links: January 27

Besides Lost, I have to say that my two favorite new shows right now are The United States of Tara and Breaking Bad. Toni Collette and John Corbett are are very enjoyable and entertaining in Tara, the new dark comedy about multiple personalities on Showtime. And I am catching up with the first season of Breaking Bad before Season 2 begins in March; I highly recommend that you do the same because the series completely deserves the critical acclaim. Bryan Cranston is nothing short of fantastic.

In other news…

George Clooney will appear on series finale of ER

I haven’t watched the show since he left, so I suppose I’ll tune it when that episode airs.

Get LOST with JOpinionated named one of the Top 100 Sci-Fi Blogs (in the TV category)

A very pleasant surprise; I am very honored to have made this list!

Mad Man Jon Hamm to appear on 30 Rock

Sweet, but will it be as funny as Jon Hamm’s John Ham?

Actor/director/screenwriter Mike White to compete on The Amazing Race

Among his other credits, White wrote and appeared in the films Chuck & Buck, Orange County, The Good Girl, The School of Rock, Nacho Libre and Year of the Dog. I am so tuning in to see him race around the world with his dad.

Supersize episode of The Office after Sunday’s Superbowl

This show went from being almost canceled to an essential staple for NBC. Impressive slot after the big game. Without a doubt, I will be watching.

ABC relocates Ugly Betty beginning next month; replaced by Samantha Who on Thursday nights

I am actually quite pleased with this move, given my recent loss of interest in Ugly Betty and great love for Christina Applegate, Jean Smart and Jennifer Esposito on Samantha Who.

When Am I? Initial Thoughts About LOST, Episodes 5.01 & 5.02

For those of you who watch the show and are interested, I just finished posted some questions and theories over on my Lost blog about the first two new episodes of Season 5. And now I will rest my exhausted eyes and mind for a few hours. Of course the episodes require a second viewing and further analysis, which I plan to address before this weekend.

Good night!

Preview/Review of Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” & Other Blog News

I was recently given the opportunity to view and review the first episode of the new series Dollhouse for TVOvermind, a fantastic new entertainment hub for television fans! It is my initial post for the site, and hopefully the beginning of a new extension for this blog. As many of you know, I contribute occasional Lost articles and theory analysis on DocArzt and Friends’ Lost Blog as well.

Click here if you’re interested to hear my initial thoughts about Joss Whedon’s new show. If you are a fan of Whedon’s previous efforts (Buffy, Firefly, Serenity) or enjoy any combination of Alias, Fringe, Heroes, Lost and The X-Files, I highly recommend that you tune in when Dollhouse debuts on FOX on Friday, February 13!

I’m Cheating on You…for 17 Weeks

Apologies in advance to those of you who do not watch Lost…I will be immersed in that world from now through May.  Though my primary attention will be focused on the Lost blog, I have grand plans to keep posting current entertainment news and commentary on this site as well, with the same frequency.

But stay tuned because I will also be reviewing and discussing new and existing shows for another site (links and details to follow shortly)!

Thank you again for your readership, patience and support. Without you, well…I would be talking to myself on paper. Not as much fun.

Latest TV News & Links for 1/15/09

Because my life is about to consumed by all things Lost when Season 5 begins next week, I do not want to neglect this blog.

I thought I’d try out a new weekly feature in the style of the USA Today Pop Candy and the Houston Chronicle Tubular blogs; links to relevant television news and my brief response to each.

Arrested Development movie; Michael Cera on hold?
Cera shouldn’t shun the role which put him on the map now that he’s achieved a certain level of success on the big screen, and AD wouldn’t be AD without young George Michael.

Damages, Season 2: A Big Chill Reunion for Glenn Close & William Hurt
One of the most intriguing and compelling shows on television; if you’re not on the bandwagon yet, rent Season 1 this weekend.

Friday Night Lights returns tomorrow night (for those of us who don’t have DirecTV)
I’ve missed Tammy and Coach, and really look forward to this season.

Jericho to be revived again, perhaps on the big screen
I watched it after the fact and LOVED it, so I’m on board for the film.

The L Word‘s final season begins on Sunday; spin-off for Alice?
I have a love/hate relationship with the series and was openly thrilled to be spoiled ahead of time with news of a death that occurs in episode 1, and although Leisha Hailey’s character is my favorite…I will not tune in if they revamp Alice and take off in an entirely new direction.

Amy Ryan will return to The Office
Hallelujah…perhaps she’ll bring the mojo with her that this season seems to have misplaced.

Remaining Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone episodes to air this summer
Thank you for answering my question from Monday, ABC, even if your answer is disappointing; if I were Tina Fey, I’d tell you to ‘suck it.’

More to follow early next week!

Donde Esta Pushing Daisies?

Dear ABC:

I wish I knew how to quit you. I’ve said it to other networks before, but there is no way I could possibly abandon the one which hosts Lost.

And although I am thrilled that you retrieved and resuscitated Scrubs from NBC, your triple show homicide (Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money) is beyond disappointing.

By the way, do you find it at all ironic that during the first episode of Scrubs to air on your network this season, they allude to and make fun of their previously mediocre Nielsen ratings?

Right now, the real question is…do you have a game plan for airing the remaining episodes of those three shows? Whatever you decide, please advertise and alert your viewers, but do not subject us to inconsistent dates and times (i.e. on Friday at 10pm one week, on Monday at 8pm the next week).

Disgruntled Daisies Fan,

Jo
