Live-Blogging the Golden Globes, pt 5

Jake Gyllenhaal alert, ladies.

Sorry, but I was underwhelmed by this film. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I absolutely love Cate Blanchett, but this wasn’t my favorite of her performances.

Jessica Lange & Drew Barrymore.

Nice Marilyn hair, Drew.

Best Miniseries or TV Movie:
A Raisin in the Sun
Bernard and Doris
Cranford

Recount

Best Supporting Actor: Film
Tom Cruise
Robert Downey Jr.

Philip Seymour Hoffman
Heath Ledger

Winner: Ledger. Goosebumps. He SO deserved it.

Standing ovation. Scene from Dark Knight.

I heart Ricky Gervais. He should be hosting the Oscars.

Does he have a drink in his hand?

Wow, he has free reign. LOL.

Best Picture Nominee (Comedy/Musical): Happy Go Lucky.

Oh Jesus, the Jo Bros (no relation; thank god). Wait, that’s 2 biblical references in one sentence, and both regarding a teen phenom. My drink isn’t strong enough.

Best Animated Feature:
Bolt
Kung Fu Panda
Wall E

Winner: Wall E. Naturally. Loved it!

Johnny Depp alert, ladies.

Best Actress, Motion Picture or Comedy:
Rebecca Hall
Sally Hawkins
Meryl Streep
Emma Thompson (my pick)
Francis McDormand

Winner: Sally Hawkins.

Haven’t seen the film. She seems very sweet, but please eat a sandwich. Or some scones with your tea.

Is she this year’s Marianne Cotillard?

Best Picture Nominee #1: Burn After Reading

I love the Coen Brothers, but I did not love this film. And let’s get it right – it was Malkovich’s film. He owned it.

Eva Mendes. I just can’t really say on this blog what I’m thinking. Maybe this is why so many think I write like a dude…or am one.

Why single out Spielberg? Just checking. Even he didn’t seem to know.

Hey Pierce Brosnan, please…never, ever sing again. Thank you.

Oh look, Hayden Planetarium and Shouldn’t-Remake-Footloose Efron.

Best Actor: TV Drama
Michael C Hall (my pick)
Jon Hamm
Hugh Laurie
J Rhys Myers
G Bryne

Winner: Gabriel Byrne.

Ok, this is the part of the evening when I shout very loudly at no one in particular….ARE YOU F’ING KIDDING ME? SERIOUSLY? WHO WATCHES THAT SHOW?

How can Byrne have possibly outshined Hamm, Hall or Laurie?

Baffled.

NERD ALERT! I heard ‘new Star Trek’ and got excited. Sad but true.

New Kirk is perty, and Sylar is Spock.

Best Actress: TV Drama
S Field
J Jones
A Paquin
K Sedgwick
M Hargitay

Winner: Paquin!!

STFU. Wow. I like the show and I’m on the fence about her, so….wow.

Vampire Bill looks better alive.

(This may or may not post. Great timing for a software glitch. Thanks GoDaddy!)

Here are the stars from two shows that aren’t nominated! They must love presenting.

Ok, Rumer Willis. No comment.

Best Supporting Actor, Series/Miniseries, etc.:
NPH, HIMYM (acronyms are so ’09)
D Leary
J Piven (Mercury Boy)
Blair Underwood
T Wilkinson

Winner: Tom Wilkinson. I should have known; Lisa said “of course he’s going to win.” I’m opinionated but rarely right.

So far, Brits: 2, Americans: 1.

Is he drunk already?

Will this be another John Adams sweep tonight?

Best Supporting Actress, Series/Miniseries blah blah blah:
E Atkins
L Dern
M George (NOT enjoying her on Greys)
R Griffiths (my choice)
D Wiest

Winner: Laura Dern

Well, she was amazing as the crazy voting lady.

Sidenote: I went to college with Ben Harper’s brothers. Very nice and sweet. His grandparents ran an amazing music store in Claremont, CA.

…back in a minute.

Watching the entertainment reporters talk to the stars on the red carpet is excruciating, especially when they ask about nominations that don’t exist. Seriously, DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

I watched the ‘pre-game’ show, and I only have one thing to say: WOW, Kate Winslet. That is all.

I’ve been to that ballroom! This is the fun awards show; stars are getting sloshed.

Hi, JLo. What’s relevant with you? Nice to see

Best Supporting Actress: Film
Amy Adams
P Cruz
Viola Davis
M Tomei
Kate Winslet

WINNER: Kate Winslet!!! YES. Thank you.

Well the evening has started off right. Of course I haven’t seen any of the films these women were nominated for (yet), but obviously I am an unabashed Winslet fan.

Has she ever looked better?

Oh look, Sting – who is NOT nominated (tsk tsk, NBC).

Best Original Song: Film
P Gabriel (Wall E)
J Cullum (Gran Torino)
M Cyrus (Bolt)…I just threw up a little
Beyonce (Cadillac Records)
B Springsteen (The Wrestler)

WINNER: Springsteen

Who can beat The Boss? No one. Even if the competition was Best Apple Pie.

Mickey Rourke flat out scares me. And I’ve lived in Oakland.

(pause for posting during commercials; will post during every commercial break. thanks for tuning in!)

Seriously? Grey’s Anatomy for Wii (But Not For Me)

I have been a fan of Grey’s Anatomy since day one, but am openly disgruntled with the current season. So I am finding it hard to fathom the desire to spend an afternoon wielding a Wii remote as McDreamy.

Ubisoft has created Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game for the PC, Nintendo DS & Wii. It is slated to be released in March.

Naturally, I have a few sarcastic and rhetorical questions in response:

  • Will all of the female characters be able to have virtual relations with Ghost Denny?
  • Will Ubisoft seek advice from an unknown source at ABC and create a barrier preventing Hahn’s avatar from interacting with Callie’s?
  • Will Alex’s face be permanently set in scowl mode?
  • Will we have the option to kill off characters when they leave the show in ‘real life,’ and will there be an upgrade available after each season to add avatars for spectacularly attractive new cast members?
  • Will there be a verbal bitch-slap function, and will it be assigned to The Chief and Dr. Bailey?

Just checking.

Move & Improve: Scrubs

I’ve always been a casual fan and viewer of Scrubs, but I have to say that the first two episodes of the new season are spot-on, and the show has more than earned a Season Pass in our house.

The half hour series, whose eighth season debuts tonight on a new network (ABC), consistently achieves the perfect balance of laughter and poignancy…and you will find that to be the case during the unusually touching second episode.

FYI, in an attempt to post with greater frequency, you may notice more entries but shorter content. Let me know what you think.

I hope you all had a fantastic start to the new year!
